High school can be a stressful time with homework, sports, and extracurriculars piling up. Applying and scouring for scholarships should not be an additional stressor to your daily life though. College is expensive, and often causes students to accumulate debt following their post-secondary education; to try and help alleviate this financial burden, here are five open scholarships, as well as resources where you can find more personal scholarship opportunities!

You Can’t Label People, But You Can Label Products

  • Due: March 31
  • Amount: $4,000
  • This scholarship is open to high school seniors and undergraduates currently attending college.
  • Write about this topic and what you think it means in a 1,000-word essay, then design your own unique label for a product!

WID Horizons Michigan Scholarship

  • Amount: Varies
  • If you’re a girl graduating high school this year, then this scholarship may be for you! Those interested in pursuing education in a STEM program and joining a career related to national defense or security have the opportunity to fill out this application.
  • You must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be eligible

Walgreens Expression Challenge

  • Due: March 31
  • Amount: $2,000
  • Walgreens is asking young students to draw on experiences that affect them and how those examples relate to societal concerns. Norma Gray College Scholarship for the Visual Arts

  • Amount: $1,000
  • If you’re interested in studying visual arts, graphic design, or animation at a Michigan college in the 24-25 school year, then check out this scholarship!

BBB Trust Scholarship

  • Due: May 29
  • Amount: $1,500
  • Sponsored by Meijer, this scholarship is open to Michigan high school seniors who believe they demonstrate the characteristics of trust and ethics.
  • You must write an 800-1000 word essay describing an example in your life where you believe you have shown and used these characteristics.

If these scholarships don’t pique your interest, or you find yourself not eligible for any, there are a few websites linked below which are wonderful in helping research and find more opportunities catered to you personally. Make sure to check them out if you want some more ideas and open applications! The Hawk Herald staff wishes everyone the best of luck in applying for scholarships!

Anna Alt
Anna Alt, Editor
Anna Alt is a senior at Forest Hills Eastern. This is her second year on the Hawk Herald staff and first year as the Editor-In-Chief. In school you can find her in National Honors Society, Kids Food Basket, Volunteer Club, and most commonly, struggling over her AP Chemistry notes. Outside school, however, you’ll often see her on (hopefully not in) the Grand River rowing with her team. If she’s not spotted there, then she’s at home with her favorite chocolate chip cookies on the couch watching the wondrous show “Bluey.” After graduating, Anna hopes to pursue a career in either Pediatrics or Neuroscience.
