On Friday, April 19th, Taylor Swift released her 11th studio album: The Tortured Poets Department, or TTPD for short. Taylor Swift announced this album when accepting one of her GRAMMY awards back in February of 2024. Swift mentioned this album had been ready for about 2 years, leaving fans to wonder what type of sound this album would have.
Through lyric credits and song credits, Swifties found out that Taylor’s favorite producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonnoff were both featured as the producers and songwriters (along with Taylor herself, of course) on this album.
Taylor Swift has been known for a while to be the leader of album promotions, this album promotion was no different. Taylor once again released 4 Album Variants, which has been a favorite for the number of vinyl packs sold by Swift in each promotional cycle.
Each vinyl variant was announced during the International Eras Tour. The variants were classified by the bonus track being featured in each album. “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross,” and “The Black Dog” each got their vinyl pack.
The 16-track The Tortured Poets Department was released at midnight on the 19th, but just a mere 2 hours later Taylor Swift took to X to announce a “2 am surprise”: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. TTPD: The Anthology is a 2nd LP with 15 extra songs boosting this album to Swift’s longest album yet. The 31-track, 2-hour and 5-minute-long album brought extreme shock to the music community and to those Swifties who wanted to get a good night’s rest.
While there is no specific reason why Swift released this second LP instead of bundling all 31 tracks together, she stated that she had simply written too many songs to pick 16.
The tracklist of The Tortured Poets Department is as follows:
