Ms. Greenwood is an English teacher at Forest Hills Eastern. She attended college at Grand Valley State University, where after five years, she graduated with a degree in English.
Before Greenwood began her teaching at Forest Hills Eastern, she was a student-teacher at Pinewood Middle School located in Kentwood. However, after completing her student-teacher experience, she decided to pursue teaching with high schoolers, stating, “I love teaching middle schoolers and having fun, but high schoolers appreciate the fun things more.”
Ms. Greenwood loves teaching English; she follows in the footsteps of her mother, aunts, and grandmother — even her youngest brother is an English teacher. Before her teaching years, Ms. Greenwood pursued a degree in journalism before switching after a semester. She described her involvement, saying, “I liked the writing part of journalism, but interviewing was a little nerve-racking to do.” Another interest Ms. Greenwood was open to following was advertising public relations. However, after more deliberation and research, ultimately decided it wasn’t the path for her, explaining, “It was a lot harder than I thought. It’s more technology-based. I thought it was just like posting a picture on Instagram, but it takes more than just that.” Ultimately, she decided to switch her major to English, leading her to her teaching position today at FHE.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Greenwood is involved in multiple passions including book clubs, sports, pets, and Taylor Swift. She’s an advisor for the FHE book club and enjoys reading in her free time. Growing up, Ms. Greenwood participated in multiple sports such as basketball, cross country, and her favorite — soccer. Continuing her love for sports, Ms. Greenwood coaches the Eastern Middle School cross-country team. She also loves animals and has a dog named Luna who “sings and doesn’t like to get dirty.”
Ms. Greenwood’s love for Taylor Swift is also incredibly strong. Students will often hear different beats of Taylor Swift songs playing in class and see numerous posters hanging on the wall. Ms. Greenwood elaborated on her love for Taylor Swift, saying, “I’ve been to four of her concerts. There were six [total], but I missed two.”
Students see Ms. Greenwood in school as a very social and outgoing person, but after a long day at work she explains, “I love to go home and lay on the couch and watch a movie.”
Out of all her passions, Ms.Greenwood says she loves teaching her students most of all and hopes to continue her education as she “loves teaching and just [has] fun learning new things.”
Ms. Greenwood’s classroom is located in hallway B, room B206. Make sure to stop by and get to know her if you haven’t yet!
