As a second semester senior, I have seen my fair share of school dances. In total I have been to 4 homecomings, 3 swirls, 2 proms, and this weekend will be my last swirl dance. Every year, student council has done a fantastic job organizing spirit weeks, ticket sales, and decorations. With the first few day of this fantastic spirit week over, there are a few things that everyone should keep in mind for when swirl comes around this Saturday.
To start, when buying tickets it is best to buy them at school lunch instead of at the door at the dance. No one wants to be the person standing in the separate line with Mr. Blink buying a last minute ticket. Also a bonus to buying a ticket early is the price, the cost is $10 per ticket, or students may purchase tickets at the door for $15. Also Students that are planning to bring an outside guest must have their guest approved in advance. A Dance Guest form can be found in the FHE Office. All completed forms must be turned in to the office by January 30 at 3 PM (no exceptions will be made for late guest passes).
Another thing to remember this dance season are the essentials to bring to the dance: socks and hair ties. Now, they might seem like afterthought items to think about, but they are definitely important. No one wants to dance barefoot on the gym floor with 200 other teenagers, so make sure to bring the pair of socks and WEAR them. The dance floor has a no shoe policy to limit injuries. For the students with long hair at Eastern, dancing can be fun but also tricky as hair frequently gets caught or yanked on the dance floor. To air on the side of caution, bring a hair tie.
On Friday this week, there will be a dance assembly during 5th hour. There will be tug a war, couples games, and staff vs. student volleyball. Sign up Friday at lunch to participate, winners of the games will earn bragging rights. The theme of the dance this year is Valentine’s Day and the dance will be held Saturday, February 1st, from 8:00-10:00 PM in the FHE Aux Gym. To take a break from dancing, all students are welcome to help themselves to refreshments of pink lemonade and light snacks! There will also be a photo booth with fun props to incorporated into your photos. Decorations will be highlighting the gymnasium and a cool DJ will sit near the dance area.
To wrap up, have a fun and safe night this sSaturday! Remember to bring your school ID with you to check in to the dance – it serves as a ticket and identification card. Enjoy the photo booth, snacks and fun music. The playlist was handcrafted with songs from the request form that was sent out earlier this month, so expect to hear some crowd favorites. Whether you’re dancing the night away with friends or capturing memories in the photo booth, make the most of your last Swirl dance. Let’s make it a night to remember!
