Homecoming week is one of the most exciting times of the school year. From the engaging spirit days to the the homecoming dance, the week is filled with exuberating events that only grow our school spirit and hawk pride. Homecoming week involves spirit days for students to wear different and fun themes each day, a school-wide assembly, a powderpuff game, a women’s volleyball outdoor stadium game followed by the homecoming football game, and finally the main event: the homecoming dance.
The week started off strong with the spirit-day theme of “soccer mom vs. barbecue dad.” Many students around Eastern participated in this theme because of the possibility to create and rock creative outfits. Most students expressed how they pulled their outfits directly from their parent’s closets. “I really enjoy stealing my dad oversized t-shirts. My dad isn’t the typical barbecue dad, but he loves to grill and show off his grilling skills,” senior Elena LeCompte describes. Bethany Narducci had a different vision of barbacue dad as she wore a golf shirt to school on monday, “My dad is definitely not a barbecue dad…he is more of an air fryer dad. So I went for more of a golf dad look.” Tuesday showed off the more poetic side of Eastern as students used this day to come up with creative ways to participate in the theme “Rhyme Without a Reason.” Juniors Shyla Chadda, Chloe Giffel, and Anna Stewart brought the school spirit to Eastern on Tuesday. The trio dressed up as a rapper, a napper, and a yapper.
The end of the week was packed with exciting events. Friday, arguably the most exciting part of the, consisted of the pep assembly, the powderpuff game, the girls volleyball game, and the football game. The assembly included a new tradition called the Mock Rock: a fun dance competition between the grade levels. The powderpuff game is a fun tradition between the junior girls and the senior girls. The senior girls made sure to win a victory over the junior girls in a clean sweep.
At 5:30, the Eastern volleyball team faced off against Hamilton at the inaugural outdoor volleyball game. This memoric event occured out at the stadium before the homecoming football game. The night was filled with fun as families and students brought their lawn chairs to enjoy an exciting volleyball game out in the sun. Following the volleyball game, the football team also faced off against Hamilton. Congratulations to both the volleyball team and football team as they made sure to secure a win over Hamilton! Once halftime hit, the homecoming court was announced. The court included the seniors Tahirih Ghebre, Ava Feuerstein, Vaishavi Srinivassan, Ellison Durkin, Noor Hassan, Tyler Endres, Blake Ford, Owen Bray, Noah Bartly, and Jonah Howell. Finally, at the end of halftime, homecoming king and queen was awarded to Jonah Howell and Noor Hassan.
