Music influences everyone around us. Music always has a way to bring people together from all around the world. It can help magnify different cultures and ways of life. People listen to music for many different reasons: to relieve stress, to listen to on long drives, and even for late-night studying. Be it a rainy day, snowy day, and especially a sunny day, there will always a song that will match the vibe to make a day even better.
Many songs are interpreted to directly correlate with a specific season of the year. For example, some may say that Noah Kahan songs or Taylor Swift’s Evermore album mostly correlates to the fall season. These artists’ songs are perfect to listen to when baking a sweet street with a pumpkin spice candle burning, while looking out the window at the orange and yellow leaves falling to the floor. Some of Noah Kahans most popular favorite songs include “Call Your Mom”, “Paul Revere”, and “Orange Juice”. Taylor Swift’s “Willow”, “Champagne Problems”, and “‘Tis the D*** Season” are also highly recommended songs to listen to during the fall season.
Many students here at Eastern High School have strong opinions on their song choices— especially when it comes to choosing the right ones for the right season of the year. As the leaves are starting to change color from green to burnt orange, new fall playlists are bound to be overheard on the way to and from school. Kate Stever, a senior, passionately describes the song “Drown” by Strange Boutique, exclaiming that “It just encapsulates the vibe of fall.” Kate proceeds to recommend that the best time to listen to “Drown” is when it is rainy outside because it helps her capture her thoughts. Kate also adds that she also enjoys listening to the song “Spooky” written by Dusty Springfield because it makes her feel “halloween-y.” So, if anyone feels in need of the Halloween spirit, all they have to do is push play on the song “Spooky” and they will feel just that! Finally, senior Elena LeCompte highly recommends the song “Please Don’t Go” by Wyatt Flores. “It just has a very folky vibe to it,” LeCompte elaborates about the song.
As fall season approaches, school is in full swing. Listening to music while studying or doing homework is a hit or miss for most students here at Eastern. A study from the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Texas A&M finds that listening to music while studying is more distracting than beneficial. Although this study may be true for some people, for others, listening to music might actually improve study abilities. Junior Cora Lee explains that she enjoys listening to either country music or worship music when she is doing her English, world history, and math homework because it helps her study. Lee’s go-to country artists are Zach Bryan, Luke Bryan, and Chris Stapleton. Eden Hostetter, a senior, explains that she enjoys listening to chill music while studying or doing her homework. Hostetter particularly enjoys the song “Next Best Thing” by Floor Cry and Vancire as well as the entirety of the new Billie Eilish album including “Skinny” and “Bitter Suite.”
Music will always have a way to connect different types of people. With the season of pumpkin spice and and apple cinnamon coming closer, be sure to check out the attached playlists of some of the most favorited songs of students here at Eastern.
