With the school year back in full swing, FHE seniors have been having what is likely one of the busiest weeks of their educational career! They have experienced two early roll calls at 6:30, and an exemption from 6th hour on Friday, August 23rd.
Just as Zendaya, Jennifer Lawerence, and Ryan Gosling walked into the Oscars on a red carpet, so did Forest Hills Easterns seniors on Wednesday. Easterns seniors gathered on an early foggy morning to celebrate the first milestone of senior year, the red carpet walk. Seniors were provided with a special memento for this occasion; sparkly, heart shaped, sunglasses. As seniors walked the red carpet they were met with the paparazzi of parents snapping pictures of them on the red carpet and standing by the beloved Eastern hawk, Herald. Towards the end of this event, breakfast was provided for all that showed, including a scrumptious selection of donuts and orange juice.
Friday morning started off bright and early for seniors who chose to participate in senior sunrise. The heart-warming event was in full effect by 7 am; however, in order to witness this rising occasion, the majority of students appeared at the football field around 6:30 am. The sunrise stood out as the best event of this week for many seniors, particularly thanks to Nicole Utz bringing a speaker out to the field, Livvy Hunting carrying a Pinterest sign for pictures, and Lily Gleason passing out her spectacular muffins. Layna Waselewsky even went so far as to comment, “ This morning is something we’ll never forget – it’s like the perfect start to our last year together.” The football field itself hosted rounds of spikeball, go fish, and picture taking.
Following the senior sunrise on August 23rd, the seniors got to pick out and paint their very own ceiling tiles. The tradition of painting the ceiling tiles goes back to the very beginning of Eastern. It is a beloved milestone each upcoming senior looks forward to and plans for, with seniors opting to paint song lyrics, book characters, and movie quotes on their tiles. No matter the complexity, seniors painted their tiles with joy; joy for one another, joy for their future, joy for the milestone.
From walking the red carpet with pride, to greeting the sunrise with friends, to leaving a lasting impression with the ceiling tiles, these early traditions have set the stage for a year full of camaraderie. The year ahead promises more milestones, each one a step closer to graduation and the start of the seniors’ next great adventures.
