The Super Bowl is renowned for its over-the-top, expensive, and entertaining ads. So following the Chief’s Super Bowl win this past Sunday, here is a ranking of my personal top ten favorite Super Bowl LVIII ads.
CeraVe
- Playing off of the similarity between famed comedic actor Michael Cera’s last name and the brand’s name, this ad showcased Michael Cera in a dramatic mimicry of typical beauty advertisements.
- This ad was not only entertaining but also over-the-top funny, earning itself a place on this list of Super Bowl LVIII’s best commercials.
Pfizer
- Pfizer’s Super Bowl ad showcased the different stages and progression of science, naming famous scientists from Albert Einstein to Isaac Newton to Katalin Kariko, all to the catchy, upbeat song “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen.
- The ad concluded with Pfizer’s new mission to advance the medical field: combating cancer.
- This aesthetic ad earned a spot on this list due to its creativity and overall well-done nature.
Deadpool and Wolverine
- In typical Ryan Reynolds fashion, the new Deadpool trailer showcased all of Wade Wilson’s sarcastic, dark, and unhinged humor, alongside scenes of gory violence.
- The trailer also may have announced a big step for all Marvel and superhero-movie fanatics, as it seemingly showed the beginning of the combination of the MCU and X-Men cinematic universes.
- Due to its extremely entertaining, funny, and highly-anticipated nature, this trailer easily landed a spot on this list of the best Super Bowl ads of 2024.
IF
- Playing off of an intro joke in the office, this ad began with Randall Park who mimicked Jim from The Office, and then wen on to act as John Krasinski, the real actor who played Jim in the show. The ad then faded into the whimsical trailer of the upcoming film.
- This film’s clever marketing team utilized the already well-known fame of The Office and John Krasinski in order to create a funny and exciting advertisement.
Dunkin’
- Many famous names such as Tom Brady, Matt Damon, Jack Harlow, and Ben Affleck made an appearance in this Super Bowl ad as the “DunKings,” showcasing their musical talents to Jennifer Lopez in a recording studio.
- From Matt Damon’s embarrassment to Ben Affleck’s rapping, this ad took a comedic approach to marketing, succeeding in its comic endeavors.
Kia
- This heartfelt ad showed a little girl figure skating at a competition, which her grandpa was unable to attend. The little girl and her father then traveled to her grandpa’s house in their Kia, where she was able to perform her routine for him.
- This ad used emotional appeal to advertise their car, creating a sentimental storyline and landing a place on this top ten list.
Popeye’s
- This ad began as the famous Hangover actor, Ken Jeong, was unfreezing after being seemingly frozen in an ice block. Once a better, and new chicken wing was released by Popeye’s, he finishes defrosting. The ad then follows Ken as he discovers all the things he had missed out on while he was frozen in the ice.
- This ad utilized Ken Jeong’s comedic talent to create a funny advertisement.
Hellman’s Mayo
- Kate McKinnon discovers her cat can speak when she is making leftovers for dinner. Her cat suggests mayo to save the meal. The talking cat then goes on to become a global superstar, even dating Pete Davidson, in this creative Super Bowl ad.
- This ad used both of the SNL alum’s comedic personalities to create a funny advertisement for the popular condiment.
Pluto TV
- This clever ad took the common expression “couch potato” literally, as it showed dozens of people dressed in potato suits while sitting on the couch watching TV.
- This ad made the top ten list because it was witty, cunning, and creative.
Uber Eats
- This ad parodies the common saying that in order to remember something, you have to make room by forgetting something else. With appearances from Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, and Victoria Beckham, the ad shows all the ridiculously absurd and basic things people have seemingly forgotten in order to remember other things.
- This ad featured over-the-top comedy, which is why it landed a spot on this list of the top 10 Super Bowl ads of 2024.
Every year the Super Bowl brings in new, funny, and creative ads that seem to compete against each other for the most recognition. This year did not disappoint with the ads brought forth; one can only imagine what other unique ads will make an appearance next year!
