The SAT is pretty important, so doing well on it would benefit you greatly. PSATs help you prepare for the SAT and get you to practice for it. Doing well on the PSAT can help you by letting you know what you did right and what you need to work on to do better next time. Sometimes, one can be lost or not know how to best study or where to begin. That’s why I’m here to give you the quickest tips on how to study and do awesome on your PSAT! There are only a few things to do that ensures that you will do great on your next PSAT.
Take A PSAT Practice Test
Taking a practice test can help you prepare for the structure and the length of the test. Knowing the format and timing of the test can help you know what to expect and how to pace yourself. The results on your practice test can be helpful. Following this guidance will help you know which areas you need to focus on and more practice on.
Create A Study Schedule
You will be more consistent with your test preparation if you set aside time to study. Evaluate your schedule and time and study each week. It is key to pick a day and time that works for you so you can have plenty of time to study at your pace! Treat this PSAT study time as a mandatory aspect of your weekly routine.
Don’t Stress
It is important to prepare for the PSAT, but don’t worry yourself sick about it! Instead, make an effort to stay stress-free as a way to dip your toes into a world of standardized testing. The value of your PSAT results in that they provide you with important guidance on how to move forward in preparing for your future standardized tests. Make sure to also take breaks after 30 minutes! A good 5 minute break can help your brain reset and when you come back to your studies, you will be ready to study harder and better! Also, go do something else instead of staying where you are studying. Don’t go screen from screen (e.g computer to your phone) because blue light can hurt your eyes and give you a headache!
Attend Test Prep Classes
If you would feel more comfortable and confident to do well on the PSAT, consider taking a PSAT prep class! Classes allow students to learn from an experienced instructor who knows the quickest shortcuts to excel on the PSAT. There are SAT/ACT prep classes here at Eastern! Mr. Morley helps with math, while Ms. Gora helps with English. Each class is $100.
Sleep And Breakfast Are Important
Make sure to get a restful night’s sleep of at least 8 hours or more to be totally awake the day of the PSAT. Set devices aside before you sleep to not add any unnecessary stress to your eyes or head. Set an alarm and wake up to it so you won’t be late for your test! On the morning of the PSAT, make sure you eat a good breakfast that makes you full. Studies show that chewing mint gum during any kind of test helps you focus better, so make sure you pack some gum!
Doing well on the PSAT will help you know what you did right, and you can use what you did to prepare for the PSAT on the SAT! However, sometimes, we don’t know how to prepare or study, and oftentimes we do things at the last minute. The tips I gave will help you start on how to prepare and hopefully succeed on your PSAT.
