It’s officially time for Thanksgiving week; a time when students are allowed a short, five-day break to enjoy this holiday. Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated every year during which friends and family gather to show gratitude for each other, food, and other fortunes.
Although Thanksgiving carries a different meal tradition for each family, there is always an original Thanksgiving dish that every family has set on the table on Thanksgiving night. Even with the variety of dishes within families homes, a heart-warming smell floats throughout the air in each dining room, giving friends and family a warm feeling. As we gather with our families this holiday, remember to enjoy and remember the delicious freshly cooked foods and quality family time.
For most families, Thanksgiving is celebrated the “traditional” way by gathering foods such as turkey, gravy, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing, glazed rolls, mixed vegetables, and even apple or pumpkin pie. Whether the food is prepared from scratch or quickly made, most families enjoy a fresh traditional Thanksgiving.
However, not everyone serves a traditional dish; some families prepare their house-warming dishes with unique, family recipes. Some of the most popular dishes that are not “traditional” include baked mac and cheese, peach cobbler, cherry pie, sweet ham, onion roll-ups, and sometimes a nicely cooked squash.
Overall there are many different foods and dishes families and friends cook throughout this holiday whether it’s done with traditional foods or a unique family recipe. During this week’s break, be sure to enjoy and explore all of the dishes that are available this season!
